Senior Legal Counsel

Office location: Baku, Azerbaijan 

Role Overview

• We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to support an international oil and gas group with diversified operations in Azerbaijan and across the region. The company’s business activities include upstream oil and gas operations, fuel retail, lubricants production and distribution, an internal outsourced IT services company and others.
• The Senior Legal Counsel will provide high-quality legal support across the group’s business units, ensure compliance with applicable Azerbaijani laws, international standards, internal policies and contractual obligations.

Requirements:

• University degree in Law
• Minimum 7–10 years of legal experience, preferably in an international company, oil and gas group, law firm or major industrial/commercial organization 
• Strong knowledge of Azerbaijani civil, commercial, corporate, labor and regulatory law 
• Strong understanding of compliance, corporate governance and risk management 
• Fluency in Azerbaijani and English is required; Russian is an advantage
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and provide practical business-oriented legal advice 

Key responsibilities:

• Provide legal advice to management and business units on day-to-day operations and strategic projects
• Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts (including service agreements, procurement contracts, NDAs, and others)
• Providing legal support for corporate procedures such as company registration, amendments, preparation of board/shareholders’ resolutions, and interaction with state authorities
• Advise HR and management on employment law matters
• Ensuring company activities comply with applicable laws and internal policies
• Advising internal departments and external clients on legal risks and contractual obligations
• Maintaining legal documentation and contributing to the implementation of effective contract management practices
