Project Manager - Renewable Projects

Role Purpose

• The Project Manager is responsible for leading the end-to-end development and delivery of renewable energy projects, including engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover. The role coordinates internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure safe, timely, cost-effective, and contract-compliant project execution

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate all phases of renewable energy project delivery from notice to proceed through commissioning, handover, and close-out.
• Manage engineering, procurement, construction, and interface activities to ensure delivery within approved scope, budget, timeline, quality, and HSE requirements.
• Supervise engineering and construction activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications, grid requirements, codes, standards, and employer requirements.
• Develop, maintain, and periodically update integrated project plans, milestone trackers, workflow charts, resource plans, and recovery plans where required.
• Coordinate with Procurement and Contracts teams for timely sourcing of materials, equipment, and services, and monitor supplier and subcontractor performance.
• Administer project contracts and support commercial management of contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and vendors, including review of deliverables, progress, variations, claims, and payment milestones.
• Act as the focal point for stakeholder management, maintaining structured communication with internal departments, shareholders, lenders, local authorities, landowners, grid authorities, contractors, consultants, and community representatives.
• Manage interfaces and relationships with the Owner’s Engineer (OE), Independent Engineer (IE), and Project Management Consultant (PMC), ensuring timely review cycles, closure of comments, alignment on technical deliverables, and compliance with financing and contractual obligations.
• Coordinate with the offtaker and related counterparties on key matters such as grid connection, scheduling, performance obligations, testing, commercial operation requirements, reporting, notices, and contractual deliverables.
• Lead project risk management by identifying, assessing, allocating, mitigating, monitoring, and reporting risks and opportunities across development, engineering, construction, interface, permitting, commercial, and operational readiness activities.
• Maintain the project risk register and ensure mitigation actions are assigned, tracked, escalated, and regularly reviewed with the project team and management.
• Manage project changes in scope, schedule, cost, and technical requirements through formal change control and impact assessment processes.
• Review engineering designs, method statements, commissioning procedures, and construction plans submitted by EPC contractors, OE, IE, PMC, or other consultants, and ensure comments are resolved promptly.
• Monitor site execution through periodic site visits, progress reviews, inspections, and coordination meetings to ensure adherence to schedule, quality, HSE, and contract requirements.
• Prepare and present regular project updates, dashboards, risk reports, and executive summaries to senior management and project stakeholders.
• Maintain complete project documentation including correspondence, contracts, variation orders, permits, approvals, test records, meeting minutes, and lessons learned.
• Support project testing, commissioning, punch list closure, energization, provisional acceptance, commercial operation, and final handover to operations or asset management.
• Ensure effective coordination with Business Development, Finance, Legal, Asset Management, HSE, and Operations teams for project alignment and decision-making.

• Internal: Business Development, Engineering, Procurement, Contracts, Finance, Legal, HSE, Asset Management, Operations, and senior management.
• External: EPC contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, Owner’s Engineer (OE), Independent Engineer (IE), Project Management Consultant (PMC), offtaker, lenders’ representatives, grid operator, authorities, and land-related stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering qualification.
• MBA is an advantage.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in energy, electrical, or renewable power projects, with experience in industrial or utility-scale EPC project management.
• Proven experience in renewable project delivery, preferably solar, wind, BESS, or hybrid projects.
• Experience in stakeholder management and coordination with OE, IE, PMC, EPC contractors, and offtaker entities.
• Strong knowledge of project risk management, contract administration, variation control, and claims support.
• Familiarity with project planning tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and technical documents; familiarity with AutoCAD is an advantage.
• Experience working with multinational and multicultural teams and contractors.
• Good understanding of industry standards, grid compliance requirements, and HSE expectations.
• Strong communication, negotiation, reporting, and coordination skills.
• English is required; Azerbaijani and Russian are advantageous.
• Professional certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 are an advantage.
