About this role

MST Engineering LLC is seeking a skilled and motivated Power Tong Operator / Hydraulic Technician to join our team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely connect and install the Hydraulic Power Unit to the tong unit before operation;
  • Start, run, monitor, and shut down the HPU according to safe operating procedures;
  • Operate the power tong and backup tong safely during make-up and break-out operations;
  • Make up and break out tubular connections according to the required torque specifications;
  • Assist with positioning, gripping, and releasing casing, tubing, or drill pipe;
  • Monitor tong performance during operation and immediately report any abnormal behavior;
  • Monitor hydraulic pressure, flow, oil temperature, filters, hoses, fittings, and oil levels;
  • Correctly connect and disconnect hydraulic hoses, ensuring proper pressure release before handling;
  • Check for hydraulic leaks before, during, and after operation;
  • Maintain correct hydraulic oil level and report any oil contamination, overheating, or pressure issues;
  • Inspect dies, jaws, backup tong, hoses, guards, tong body, and safety devices before use;
  • Perform daily preventive maintenance on the HPU, tong unit, hoses, and related accessories;
  • Keep the HPU and tong unit clean, safe, and ready for operation;
  • Assist with rig-up, rig-down, equipment cleaning, loading, unloading, and basic maintenance.

 Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Hydraulic Technician, Power Tong Operator, or similar oilfield equipment operator;
  • Experience with hydraulic systems, pumps, valves, hoses, fittings, filters, and pressure gauges;
  • Good understanding of Hydraulic Power Unit and power tong operation;
  • Knowledge of casing, tubing, or drill pipe make-up and break-out operations is preferred;
  • Ability to identify hydraulic leaks, pressure problems, overheating, and mechanical faults;
  • Ability to work safely around pressurized hydraulic systems and moving equipment;
  • Physically fit and able to work in rig site and field conditions;
  • BOSIET / FOET certificate for offshore operations;
  • Hydraulic related trainings, including safe handling of pressurized hoses, fittings, pumps, valves, and hydraulic systems;
  • Previous training or competency certificate for casing, tubing, or drill pipe make-up and break-out operations.
